La tradicional disputa medieval de los universales es tratada aquí desde el punto de vista antiguo, específicamente desde la postura aristotélica. Se revisa su posición frente al platonismo y de allí se intenta analizar hasta donde pudo llegar su rechazo del idealismo de su maestro. De llegar a rechazarlo por completo sería un nominalista; en caso contrario habría que revisar en qué puntos continuó manteniendo la existencia de la forma sobre la materia.

La tradicional disputa medieval de los universales es tratada aquí desde el punto de vista antiguo, específicamente desde la postura aristotélica. Se revisa su posición frente al platonismo y de allí se intenta analizar hasta donde pudo llegar su rechazo del idealismo de su maestro. De llegar a rechazarlo por completo sería un nominalista; en caso contrario habría que revisar en qué puntos continuó manteniendo la existencia de la forma sobre la materia. The traditional debate on universals is treated here from the ancient point of view, specifically from the Aristotelian perspective. Aristotle's view on Platonism is reviewed here, and a attempt to analyze how strong is his rejection of his master's idealism is made. If Aristotle rejected completely Plato's idealism he will become a nominalist, otherwise we would have to investigate in which aspects Aristotle continued maintaining the existence of form over matter.
