Este ensayo pretende aportar elementos para comprender desde el estudio comparado de una de las tradiciones jurídicas más importantes del mundo (Common Law), los procesos de cambio que se adelantan en nuestro país, tanto en la práctica jurídica como en la renovación teórica y en la labor académica del derecho. Enfatiza el Common Law norteamericano desde una perspectiva histórica y resalta algunas de sus más importantes instituciones políticas y principios jurídicos en relación con su recepción en nuestro constitucionalismo de raigambre romano-canónica.

This essay attempts to contribute, from the comparative study of one of the most important legal traditions of the world (Common Law) the understanding of the changing process developed in our country, both in the legal practice and theoretic renovation in the academic practice of law. It emphasizes the Common Law of the United States from a historical perspective and remarks some of its more important political institutions and legal principles, and aspects of its reception in our constitutionalism rooted in the roman-canonical tradition.
