Sphaeropthalma pinedai sp. nov. (Hymenoptera: Mutillidae), especie endémica de Chile, se describe e ilustra de ambos sexos. S. pinedai representa el primer registro para América del Sur de una especie de Mutillidae con machos braquípteros. Se presenta un listado de especies de Mutillidae en América con machos braquípteros o ápteros.

Sphaeropthalma pinedai sp. nov. (Hymenoptera: Mutillidae), an endemic species of Chile is described and illustrated by gender. S. pinedai represents the first record for South America of a Mutillid species with brachypterous males. A list of Mutillidae species from America with brachypterous or apterous males is given.
