Este artículo contiene una revisión temática sobre el estado de la investigación respecto al desarrollo de las tesis doctorales con prácticas creativas en artes y diseño. Ese tipo de tesis interesan a los investigadores y a la academia en aras del debate internacional sobre la validez metodológica y la generación de conocimientos comunicables en la investigación creación (I+C). El objetivo es indagar la investigación actual sobre las tesis doctorales en artes y diseño realizadas a través de prácticas creativas. Específicamente se identifican los métodos, búsquedas y conclusiones de las investigaciones que han abordado la problemática de las disertaciones que asumieron la I+C. Para examinar el panorama actual del problema se recurre al análisis de contenido en artículos e informes de investigación con aportes internacionales, regionales y nacionales. En cada documento se identifican las posibilidades y dificultades de la investigación basada en la práctica creativa en disertaciones de todo el mundo. Las conclusiones de esta revisión destacan la potencialidad de la creación como herramienta para obtener y procesar datos en una investigación de artes o diseño. Así mismo, resalta la importancia del registro transparente de los datos como garantía metodológica y la necesidad de mantener una estructura académica para la presentación de los textos escritos. Finalmente, se observa que no existen orientaciones, normas o acuerdos interinstitucionales frente a disertaciones con I+C. En este sentido, se precisa establecer consensos para garantizar una evaluación justa entre pares, para reconocer los resultados obtenidos y para evaluar la relevancia del conocimiento alcanzado en una disertación basada en la práctica del arte o el diseño.

Research-creation in doctoral theses of arts and design.
This paper is a thematic review of research about development of doctoral theses with creative practices in arts and design. These thesis interest to researchers and academy by international debate about validity on method and generation of communicable knowledge in the research-creation. Goal is to study current research on doctoral theses in arts and design made through creative practices. Specifically, methods, searches and conclusions of researches that have addressed the problems of dissertations that assumed the research-creation are identified. To examine current panorama of problem, we resort to analysis of content in articles and research reports, with international, regional and national contributions. Each document identifies possibilities and difficulties of research based on creative practice in dissertations from around the world. Conclusions of this review highlight potential of creation as tool to obtain and process data in an arts or design research. Likewise, it highlights importance of transparent data registration as a methodological guarantee and need to maintain an academic structure for presentation of written texts. Finally it is observed that there are no orientations, norms or inter-institutional agreements about research-creation. In this sense, it is necessary to establish consensus to guarantee a fair evaluation among peers, to recognize results obtained and to evaluate relevance of knowledge reached in a dissertation based on the practice of art or design.
