El artículo trata de manera somera la relación que existe entre los archivos, las colecciones y la arquitectura como el lugar que puede contenerlos. Se estudia específicamente el tema de la arquitectura de las bibliotecas, cuyo inicio puede encontrarse en Europa y en la América colonial en el interior de los edificios conventuales o monásticos. Es al final del siglo XVIII cuando emerge la concepción moderna del edificio-biblioteca como una entidad autónoma, la que se desarrolla ampliamente en los siglos posteriores. Se presta especial atención a algunos edificios representativos de la arquitectura de las bibliotecas construidos en Colombia en el siglo XX e inicios del XXI y se incluyen unos ejemplos, también representativos, de bibliotecas... The article deals with the relationship between archives, collections and architecture as the place that can contain them. The subject of library architecture is specifically studied, the beginning of which can be found in Europe and colonial America inside conventual or monastic buildings. It is at the end of the 18th century when the modern conception of the library-building emerges as an autonomous entity, which develops widely in subsequent centuries. Special attention is paid to some representative buildings of the architecture of the libraries built in Colombia in the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century and some examples, also representative, of public libraries housed in buildings of heritage value are included.
