Este trabajo propone y aborda una revisión de literatura sobre el diagnóstico y tratamiento de la ulceración gástrica de los caballos, destacando aspectos importantes y fundamentales que deben ser tenidos en cuenta durante el abordaje diagnóstico de casos clínicos y la escogencia de la alternativa terapéutica adecuada. Debido a la alta incidencia de esta patología, que en muchas ocasiones pasa por inadvertida, atribuido muy posiblemente a la variabilidad de los signos y síntomas presentes en esta enfermedad o a la falta de conocimiento y sensibilización por parte de los Médicos Veterinarios acerca de la importancia del adecuado manejo de las úlceras gástricas y sus repercusiones en la salud y el rendimiento de los caballos. Diagnosis And Treatment Este trabajo propone y aborda una revisión de literatura sobre el diagnóstico y tratamiento de la ulceración gástrica de los caballos, destacando aspectos importantes y fundamentales que deben ser tenidos en cuenta durante el abordaje diagnóstico de casos clínicos y la escogencia de la alternativa terapéutica adecuada. Debido a la alta incidencia de esta patología, que en muchas ocasiones pasa por inadvertida, atribuido muy posiblemente a la variabilidad de los signos y síntomas presentes en esta enfermedad o a la falta de conocimiento y sensibilización por parte de los Médicos Veterinarios acerca de la importancia del adecuado manejo de las úlceras gástricas y sus repercusiones en la salud y el rendimiento de los caballos. El diagnóstico de la enfermedad debe basarse en la anamnesis precisa, los signos clínicos y la respuesta al tratamiento. Sin embargo, el patrón más relevante es la gastroscopia, siendo esta la manera más objetiva y precisa de diagnóstico, ya que permite el examen directo y valoración correcta de las lesiones. Las estrategias terapéuticas del síndrome de ulceración gástrica de los caballos, se fundamenta principalmente en la reducción de la acidez gástrica, el manteniendo el pH intragástrico mayor a 4, proteger o recubrir la úlcera gástrica con un agente resistente al ácido clorhídrico y por ultimo estimular la protección intrínseca de la mucosa This paper proposes and discusses a literature review on the diagnosis andtreatment of gastric ulceration in horses, highlighting important and fundamentalaspects that must be taken into account during the diagnostic approach to clinicalcases and the choice of the alternative appropriate therapy. Due to the highincidence of this disease, this often passes unnoticed, most likely attributed to thevariability of the signs and symptoms present in this disease or lack of knowledgeand awareness on the part of veterinarians about the importance of propermanagement of gastric ulcers and their impact on health and performance ofhorses. The diagnosis of the disease must be based on accurate anamnesis,clinical signs and response to treatment. However, the most important pattern isthe gastroscopy, this being the most objective and accurate diagnosis, as it allowsdirect examination and correct assessment of the lesions.
