El debate en torno a la posibilidad de gobernar y sus condiciones debe anteceder al debate en torno al buen gobierno. Entre otras cosas, porque solo una explicación de sus fracasos puede darnos una pista acerca de cómo gobernar bien. Desde esta perspectiva me propongo desarrollar una teoría del gobierno como un autogobierno condicionado y explorar las posibilidades de pensar algo que podríamos llamar gobierno indirecto, sin olvidar la ambigüedad que acompaña a estas formas sutiles de poder.

The debate over the possibility of governing and the conditions of it must precede the debate over good government. One reason is because only an explanation of its failures can give us a clue as to how to govern well. From that perspective, I propose to develop a theory of government as a conditioned self-government and to explore the possibilities of devising something that we could call indirect government, without forgetting the ambiguity that accompanies these subtle forms of power.
