En este estudio exploratorio se examinó la prevalencia general y por género de 68 formas de maltrato en la pareja, de tipo físico, psicológico, emocional, sexual y económico, y la correlación entre el tiempo de relación y la frecuencia de los malos tratos, en una muestra de adolescentes y jóvenes adultos solteros colombianos. Participaron 403 individuos, 149 varones y 254 mujeres, entre 15 y 30 años de edad, de los cuales el 82.6% informó haber sido objeto, por lo menos una vez, de alguna forma de maltrato por parte de su pareja. No se presentaron diferencias significativas por género en la prevalencia general y en la de cada tipo de maltrato analizado, excepto en la de maltrato económico, la cual fue mayor para los varones. Se encontró una correlación positiva estadísticamente significativa entre el tiempo de relación y la frecuencia general de los malos tratos, específicamente a nivel del maltrato físico y psicológico.
This exploratory study examined the prevalence of 68 forms of physical, psychological, emotional, sexual and economic partner maltreatment and the correlation between the duration of the relationship and the general frequency of the abuse in a sample of 403 single Colombian adolescents and adult youths, 149 males and 254 females, 15-30 years-old. Results showed that 82.6% (n=333) informed of having been object, at least once, of some type of abusive partner conduct. There were not significant differences by gender in the general prevalence neither by type of abuse, except for the economic maltreatment, where the prevalence was higher for males. There was also a statistically-significant positive correlation between the duration of the relationship and the general frequency of the abuse, specifically physical and psychological.
