Los efectos de la reducción de lluvias y sequía del lago Gatún y el canal de Panamá se ha convertido en un tema de debate reciente. El segundo semestre de 2023 se ha convertido en las fechas de mayor sequía para el canal gracias al cambio climático y el fenómeno del niño. Por estas razones, finalizando octubre, la autoridad del canal de Panamá se vio obligada a reducir el número de tránsitos durante los últimos tres meses de 2023, a fin de garantizar la operación del canal. Consecuentemente, desde el 8 al 30 de noviembre, el tránsito diario se limitó a 24 buques. As a result, towards the end of October, the Panama Canal Authority was compelled to reduce the number of transits during the last three months of 2023 to ensure the canal's operation. Consequently, from November 8 to 30, daily transits were limited to 24 vessels. Against this backdrop, this study aims to analyze the consequences of this phenomenon within an export context, by reviewing foreign trade data on Colombian-origin goods transiting the canal, their destination countries, and statistics before and during the 2023 drought at the Panama Canal.
