En cuanto a la evidencia de validez convergente, la EFS mostró correlaciones significativas y positivas con la dimensión del Locus de Control Externo de la ELCL. Validity evidences of the Social Fatalism Scale (SFS) for Brazilian context
Journal article
Social Fatalism (SF) is defined as a belief scheme characterized by passivity, resignation, reduced criticism, and little control over life's contingencies. This cross-sectional study presents the process of adapting the Social Fatalism Scale (SFS) and analyzing its validity evidence for the Brazilian context. 213 individuals participated. The instrument was adapted for the Brazilian context and applied along with the Levenson Locus of Control Scale (ELCL). The original model of the scale was tested by means of confirmatory factor analysis, which showed adequate adjustment indices: CFI = 0.97; TLI = 0.97; RMSEA = 0.07 (C.I. = 0.05–0.08). The internal consistency coefficients were satisfactory for the total scale (α = 0.83, ωt = 0.79), and for the dimensions of Predetermination (α = 0.90, ωt = 0.91) and Presentism (α = 0 .78, ωt = 0.80); were moderate in the dimensions Lack of control (α = 0.68, ωt = 0.70) and Pessimism (α = 0.54, ωt = 0.66). As for evidence of convergent validity, the EFS showed significant and positive correlations with the External Locus of Control dimension of the ELCL. The use of the EFS can contribute to an effective assessment of the presence and intensity of the FS in the cognitive schemes of information processing in the Brazilian population.
