El presente artículo de revisión describe los sistemas y estrategias de comunicación aumentativa y alternativa usados en cuidados intensivos, interlocutores participantes, beneficios de su uso, funciones del lenguaje para las que se usan aquellos, la importancia del profesional en fonoaudiología como orientador de procesos comunicativos y nivel de satisfacción del paciente con la comunicación. También se exponen otros aspectos que relacionados con la comunicación con el paciente deben ser tenidos en cuenta para traer múltiples beneficios, pero principalmente el reconocimiento del paciente como sujeto activo en el proceso de atención en salud, terapias complementarias no farmacológicas, la necesidad e importancia de cursos formativos en comu... The present review article describes the systems and strategies of augmentative and alternative communication used in intensive care, participating interlocutors, benefits of their use, language functions for which they are used, the importance of the professional in speech therapy as a guide for communication processes and level of patient satisfaction with communication. Other aspects related to communication with the patient must be taken into account to bring multiple benefits, but mainly the recognition of the patient as an active subject in the health care process, complementary therapies are not pharmacological, the need and importance of training courses in communication in the clinical environment.
