Se propone en este artículo una metodología para el diseño sísmico de estanterías metálicas de almacenamiento basada en el enfoque de diseño por desempeño, considerando las solicitaciones sísmicas de diseño de Colombia. Se dan elementos para analizar el comportamiento estructural ante distintos niveles de demanda sísmica de acuerdo con la utilización que se les dará. Con esta metodología se presenta la posibilidad de realizar modificaciones y ajustes a diseños existentes para garantizar el cumplimiento de objetivos de desempeño propuestos, mejorando la eficiencia de los diseños, su competitividad en el mercado y la confiabilidad en el diseño.Abstract: Seismic engineering has been responsible of proposing design methods to ensure that structures behave according to defined limit states during their lifetime and to fulfill the function for which they were designed. This article proposes a methodology to be applied to the design of steel storage racks based on a design philosophy for seismic performance, considering the demands for seismic design in Colombia. This article gives elements to analyze their structural behavior for different seismic demands, defined according to the use they will have and leaving an open door to make suggestions and adjustments as may be required to existing designs to ensure the meeting of the performance objectives proposed for the structure, improving the efficiency of the rack’s designs, their market competitiveness, and in turn obtaining safer structures.
