Sumario:
La obra de Émile Durkheim representa una significativa contribución a la sociología y a la educación. Su aporte en la comprensión de las relaciones que se establecen entre sociedad y educación para la configuración de la urdimbre social logró resaltar las características socio y espacio-temporales como elementos determinantes dentro de los ideales de hombre y sociedad. En este sentido, el espacio-escolar surge como un vehículo de socialización de estos ideales, convirtiéndolo en un constitutivo y constituyente de sus transformaciones. Con base en lo anterior, en este artículo se presentan algunos elementos del pensamiento de Durkheim en lo que respecta a la educación; esto con el fin de resaltar las relaciones entre esta categoría y el espacio-escolar.
