En las últimas décadas, se ha extendido la idea de que la música y las artes en general son herramientas eficaces para resolver conflictos y armonizar sociedades divididas. Pero ¿la música es una aliada de la transformación social per se? ¿No es solo una herramienta adaptable a múltiples contextos e intereses de diversos actores? ¿No puede usarse también para atizar odios, deshumanizar y silenciar al adversario? En este artículo se intentará dar respuesta a estas cuestiones a partir de la revisión de algunas investigaciones realizadas a lo largo del mundo acerca de contextos de guerra y posconflicto. El propósito es dar luces sobre las posibilidades y las falencias de la música como herramienta para construir paz, ejercicio necesario en el actual escenario del posacuerdo de paz con las FARC-EP, que exige estrategias imaginativas para superar más de medio siglo de guerra. In recent decades, the idea that music and the arts in general are effective tools for resolving conflicts and harmonizing divided societies has spread. But is music an ally of social transformation per se? Isn’t it just a tool adaptable to multiple contexts and interests of diverse actors? Can it not also beused to stir up hatred, dehumanize and silence the adversary? This article will attempt to provide answers to these questions based on a review of some research carried out around the world on war and post-conflict contexts. The purpose is to shed light on the possibilities and shortcomings of musicas a tool to build peace, an exercise necessary in the current scenario of the post-peace agreement with farc-ep, which requires imaginative strategies to overcome more than half a century of war.
