Paragonimiasis is a foodborne anthropozoonoses, caused by Paragonimus genus being P. Westwermanii, the one that infects humans. Human infection occurs after the intake of freshwater crustaceans poorly cooked, infected with metacercariae. The severity and progression of symptoms depend on the stage and the number of parasites present. The stage of lung infection is characterized by cough, hemoptysis, chest pain, weight loss and radiographic findings. Since respiratory symptoms and radiological findings nonspecific pulmonary TB is the main differential diagnosis to consider. The diagnosis is based on the demonstration of Paragonimus parasitological means, in some cases as extra pulmonary paragonimiasis or other circumstances when bacteriological methods fail is necessary serological studies. Praziquantel is currently considered the treatment of choice.
