Hemoptysis is a serious, potentially fatal condition whose clinical course is very difficult to predict. The clinician must investigate every possible cause, as well as the site of the hemorrhage, in order to prevent worsened morbidity and mortality. There are many reports of hemoptysis caused by attempted removal of foreign bodies; however, there are few reports of episodes of hemoptysis caused by the foreign body itself. Therefore, diagnostic algorithms usually consider the foreign body as a remote cause. The case is presented of a young, previously well patient with intermittent episodes of hemoptysis whose cause was a woody plant fragment of approximately 6cm.
