spelling lntroduction: the lung is one of the most compromised organs in patients with HIV infection, especially by opportunistic diseases, including Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP).Objective: to describe the most frequent bronchoscopic and radiologic findings in patients with HIV infection and confirmed Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia at Hospital Universitario San Ignacio, over the period from January 2005 to January 2010.Design: descriptive cross-cut study.Materials and methods: 1.880 clinical records were reviewed; 190 patients, who had been hospitalized with diagnosis of HIV infection and had complete clinical, radiologic, and bronchoscopic information were included. Results: 74% of the patients had a CD4 counts 200 cells. The most frequent bronchoscopic finding was trachoobronchitis. Chest films showed diffuse interstitial and alveolar infiltrates, and in 92,3% of cases ground glass infiltrates appeared on high-resolution chest scans. Conclusions: in patients with HIV infection and PCP, the most frequent bronchoscopic finding was tracheobronchitis; and ground glass infiltrates were predominan! on high-resolution chest scans.
