Thanks to the development of suitable equipment for bronchoscopic studies in children, this procedure has positioned itself as a common and essential test in the management of diverse respiratory diseases in pediatrics. Bronchoscopy has proved to be useful for removal of impacted foreign bodies, guided aspiration of plugged up mucus and blood clots in the bronchi, assistance in difficult intubation, dilatation of congenital or acquired tracheal or bronchial stenosis, resection of mucosal lesions, transtracheal needle aspiration of cysts and nodules, pulmonary lavage in cases of suspected infection, closure of bronchopleural fistulas, and various perioperative applications, such as selective intubation and closure of tracheoesophageal fistulas.
