spelling Objective: To evaluate exercise tolerance in a group of miners through the six-minute walk test.Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study; 72 miners were evaluated through a previously designed instrument, analyzing physiologic changes and the distance walked (in meters). Central tendency and dispersion measures were estimated for the included variables. Results: Functional changes were observed in the mean basal heart rate 76 beats/min (SD 12) and mean final heart rate 119 beats/min (SD 18); without reaching maximum range for age, mean systolic basal arterial blood pressure 120 mmHg (SD 12) and mean diastolic 77 mmHg (SD 9); mean systolic arterial blood pressure at the end of the test was 117 mmHg (SD 13) and mean diastolic 75 mmHg (SD 9). The mean partial oxygen saturation at the beginning of the test was 94% (SD 1,8), and 92% (SD 2,3) at the end. Subjective dyspnea according to the Borg scale was found in 9% of subjects. Conclusions: The behavior of arterial blood pressure and heart rate was found to be within physiologic values for the age of the study group. Subjective dyspnea was greater than expected according to the Borg scale. It was concluded that exercise tolerance was affected in the study group with respect to the expected parameters in the light of the six-minute walk test.
